The Mid Autumn Festival is an annual harvest festival that is celebrated by the Chinese. This festival is often called the Mooncake or Lantern Festival because of the various festivities that take place around this occasion. The festivities run for one month, but the actual festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th Chinese Lunar month (3rd October this year), when the moon is at its fullest. This festival is marked with hanging lanterns and also mooncakes, which are sold all around the city at cakes shops, department stores and hotels.
Chinatown
We went to Chinatown with David's parents and it was packed with people out shopping, having dinner and just enjoying the festivities. The main streets in Chinatown were decorated with beautiful lanterns.
Clarke Quay
This area along the Singapore River was also packed with people out celebrating the Mid Autumn Festival. In addition to hanging lanterns, there were also beautiful floats on the river.
