Pisa, Italy

After our stay in Cinque Terre we took the train to Pisa.  Pisa is a nice city situated along the Arno River.  It is one of the most visited European cities, in part due to its major attraction - the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Campo dei Miracoli and the Leaning Tower of Pisa
Pisa is best known for its leaning tower and it definitely did not disappoint.  The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most remarkable architectural structures from medieval Europe.
The construction of the tower began in August 1173 and continued for about 200 years due to the onset of a series of wars.  The tower stands at 196 feet (60 metres) and is constructed of white marble.  Until 1990 was leaning at about a 10 degree angle.
The tower is one of the four buildings that makes up the cathedral complex in Pisa called Campo dei Miracoli or Piazza dei Miracoli, which means Field of Miracles.  The other three buildings are the cathedral or Duomo di Pisa, the baptistery and the cemetery or Camo Santo.  The leaning tower is however the piazza's crowing glory.
We were also able to visit the cathedral and it was beautiful inside.

Market at the Piazza della Vettovaglie
After our visit to the Leaning Tower of Pizza, we walked to the market at the Piazza della Vettovaglie.  It is a great little market with lots of local fresh fruits and vegetables for sale.
