Brass Explosion is Asia's biggest International Brass Music Festival. The objective of this festival, which is in its third year, is to strengthen the development of brass playing in Singapore, to enrich the musical lives of students of brass instruments and to showcase the talent of some of the top brass players in the world.
This year's festival was held over the course of four days, at different venues around Singapore. On the first day we attended "Masters of Brass", a concert at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore. This concert featured a string of internationally renowned brass players - Steven Mead (one of the most successful Euphonium soloists in the world), Stefan Dohr (principal Horn player with the world renowned Berliner Philharmonic), Sarah Willis (first ever female brass player with the world renowned Berliner Philharmonic), Sergio Carolino (principal Tuba player with the Porto Symphony Orchestra), Gareth Small (principal Trumpet with the Halle Orchestra) and Darren Acosta (principal Solo-Trombone Chair with the Finnish Radio Symphony). All the artists were amazing and we were treated to 2 1/2 hours of wonderful music.

On the third day of the festival we attended "Concerts by the Bay", a concert showcasing brass music in different forms at the Marina Bay Sands. This concert featured a variety of music from classical, to jazz, to pop, all performed by local and international brass artists including the Brass Society Brass Band, the All-Star Big Band and the UK's Desford Colliery Band. It was an enjoyable afternoon and overall it was a great festival, and one that we look forward to supporting in the future.
