Singer/songwriter Jason Mraz came to Singapore at the end of June, as part of his "Tour is a Four Letter Word" world tour and also as the opening act for the Rhythm of Nature festival. The Rhythm of Nature festival was held in conjunction with the official opening of the Gardens by the Bay.
Jason Mraz performed at The Meadow, a five acre garden venue at Gardens by the Bay, that is now Singapore's largest outdoor venue. It was very fitting for Jason Mraz to be part of the opening of Gardens by the Bay, because he is a huge proponent of green energy and a green lifestyle (which includes a raw vegan diet, keeping a close tab on his and his crew's carbon footprint, recycling and reusing).
The last time we saw Jason Mraz in concert was in November 2011 at the Sydney Opera House. That concert had a different feel to it, because firstly it was an acoustic concert (Jason Mraz performed alongside vocalist and percussionist Toca Rivera) and secondly the opera house was a more intimate venue. This time around, Jason Mraz performed with his band that included a violinist and a fantastic horns section (the Grooveline Horns from Austin, Texas). He performed for 2 hours 20 minutes non-stop and sang songs from his new album "Love is a Four Letter Word", and old favourites like "I'm yours" and "Lucky" (a duet which he sang with Singapore singer/songwriter Corrinne May). It was a really great concert in front of a very enthusiastic crown of around 15,000 people. This sold out concert was a success and a great way to open Gardens by the Bay. Jason Mraz is one of our favourite singers, so it was a treat to have him perform in Singapore.
