Luang Prabang, Laos

After our time in Chiang Mai we flew to Luang Prabang in Laos.  Luang Prabang is situated in north central Laos and it was the capital of Laos and seat of the monarchy until the 16th century.

Luang Prabang is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage city.  The city itself is in a beautiful natural setting at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan rivers.  The city is crowded with temples and dominated by the 330 foot-high (100 metres) outcrop called Phu Si.  Luang Prabang was once under French colonial rule and this is evident in some of the architecture around the town.

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable time in Luang Prabang and it is definitely a place we would want to visit again.

Le Bel Air Hotel

During our time in Luang Prabang we stayed at the Le Bel Air Boutique Hotel.  This hotel is situated on the banks of the Khan River and it has a peaceful setting with a great view.  We had a very restful stay here.

The Town of Luang Prabang

The centre of Luang Prabang was surprisingly very laid-back and this made for a relaxing visit.  The main street in town is filled with lovely little restaurants, cafes and shops.

The Mekong River

We took a walk to the point where the Khan river meets the Mekong river and enjoyed this beautiful sunset.

Night Market

One of the attractions in Luang Prabang is the night market.  We really enjoyed our visit to this market as there was a wide selection of goods and souvenirs.
