Singapore's Golden Jubilee

Singapore celebrated its 50th year of independence and it was a grand celebration.  It was a bittersweet celebration, as the first Prime Minister of Singapore,  Mr Lee Kuan Yew, passed away a few months before this.  He was the visionary behind Singapore's success and helped catapult Singapore from a third world country to a safe, prosperous and first world country.

The SG50 festivities started weeks before the actual day on the 9th August and it was wonderful to be in Singapore and a part of this historic event.

For four Saturdays leading up to the actual jubilee, the public were invited to watch the rehearsals at the Marina Bay area, which included a display by Singapore's Black Knights, a military parade and  fireworks.  We went to a few of the rehearsals and it was very festive and exciting.

Fortunately we did this, because on the actual day of the jubilee, while we had every intension to go to the Marina Bay area, it became so crowded that many of the areas were closed off.  So we ended up watching the celebrations on television.
