The Matterhorn, Zermatt, Switzerland

The big attraction in Zermatt is definitely the majestic Matterhorn.  When we arrived in Zermatt it was overcast and the Matterhorn was not entirely visible.  Fortunately we booked a hotel room with a view facing the Matterhorn, which turned out to be perfect because when we woke up very early the next day, it was clear and we got a spectacular view of this majestic mountain.

Cable Car to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise
The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is Europe's highest-altitude cable car that takes visitors to 3883 meters  (12,740 feet).  The cable car going up was great, as it gave us amazing views of the mountains, glaciers and of course the Matterhorn.  It was interesting to see how much the landscape changed the further up we went.

Matterhorn Glacier Paradise
We got the most spectacular panoramic views at 3883 meters (12,740 feet) of glaciers and over 30 mountain peaks, including the Matterhorn.  While some people were up there to swoon over the breathtaking views, many were up there to ski, hike and snowshoe.

Glacier Palace
Glacier Palace is an ice museum at Matterhorn Glacier Paradise.  We had to go through a descending tunnel to get to the ice sculptures.  It wasn't a huge display, but there were some nice sculptures.

Descending from the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, we again got some amazing views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.
