Anniversary Dinners, Singapore

For our wedding anniversary this year, we were fortunate to celebrate our special day twice, once by ourselves and once with some of our Singaporean friends.
Our anniversary this year fell on a Monday, the same day that David was scheduled to fly to Phuket on business.  It also happened that I (Sam) was in a course the whole of Friday, Saturday and Sunday leading up to our anniversary.  The plan was for us to go out for dinner on the Sunday after my course ended at 8pm, but when I got home that evening,  David surprised me by preparing a wonderful dinner for the two of us.  He made Cannellini bean pate on toast (inspired by one of our favourite starters at Mario Batali's restaurant here in Singapore); followed by baked salmon and snapper in a soy/maple syrup marinade, served with brown rice and vegetables.  Everything was delicious!  For dessert, David made a flourless chocolate cake, which was decadent.  It was a wonderful anniversary dinner, made more special by the time and effort that David took to prepare a wonderful celebratory dinner for us.

For our anniversary, our friends insisted on taking us out for dinner.  They took us to a really nice restaurant that has just opened in Singapore called Wooloomooloo.  The Wooloomooloo Group is firmly established in Hong Kong with three restaurants there and this being the group's first restaurant in Singapore.  The restaurant in Singapore is elegant (love the decor) and offers a great view of the business district and the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.   Although Wooloomooloo is primarily a steakhouse, there were quite a few vegetarian and pescetarian options for us to choose from.  For starters, we shared a Caesar salad and then David had the Salmon with vegetables prepared in a soy/ginger broth and I had the Spinach ravioli.  Both main courses were absolutely delicious.  For dessert, David and I decided to share the Chocolate Molten cake, but when the desserts arrived, another one was brought for our anniversary celebration - a lemon meringue tart (a favourite of mine).  Both desserts were really good, but being too much for both of us to finish, we ended up sharing them with the others, who had also ordered their own desserts.  Needless to say, it was a great evening where we got to enjoy a wonderful meal, but more importantly, where we got to spend time with good friends.

In some ways it is hard to believe that we have been married for 7 years already, but time does fly when you are having fun!  We feel so blessed to have celebrated another anniversary together and are beyond grateful to have each other.
